Congress Drops Veterans Medical Cannabis Amendment

Follow Us!Share This!Earlier this year, both the House and the Senate approved a Veterans Affairs appropriations bill that contained an amendment that would have allowed Veterans Affairs doctors to recommend medical cannabis to their patients who have qualifying conditions. The House and Senate versions of the bill differed in other ways, so it went to what’s called a conference committee, comprised of members from both chambers, in order to work out compromise language. That language did not include the medical…

Daniel

Follow Us!Share This!I never have met Dan’s mother but we have talked on the phone a good bit and by email. It was in one of those first written notes that she got my attention. I was riveted on her words. “Al, I gave the Marine Corps a fine young man, eager to serve his fellow Marines and his country and look what they gave me back”. The majority of the guys were…

Veterans, Post Traumatic Stress and Medical Cannabis

Follow Us!Share This!Patients Out of Time recognizes that the federal prohibition of herbal cannabis is unjust and hurts patients. In 2010 Dr. Robert Petzel, the Under Secretary of Veterans Affairs issued a Directive that acknowledged the medical value of cannabis and directed VA physicians that they could continue to provide treatment to Veterans who use cannabis as long as they live in a state with a medical cannabis law and have a recommendation for cannabis from a civilian physician. This…

Cannabis Treatment by Geography

Follow Us!Share This! Some US military Veterans are allowed to use cannabis medicinally. Some are not. Clinical cannabis use is not decided by the military patients need for her medicine but rather where she lives. This practice is of course totally illogical. Considering the source of this decision, the war on drugs mentality, it is not surprising. Realizing that Veterans are not being treated for their injuries properly, is not surprising to me. I’m a Vietnam Veteran and I have seen…
