“ Marijuana as Medicine”

The award winning video (US and Canada) “Marijuana as Medicine” features the first five patients in the United States to receive marijuana (cannabis) from the federal government. Released in 1993 this video opened the eyes of the public and health care professionals alike. It turned the image of the “pot smoking hippie”, constantly used by the federal government as a poster child for depicting the sick and dying, into the lie that it is by showing that real patients look just like you.

This 18-minute presentation has been viewed around the world in dozens of countries. It has been shown on the government-sponsored networks of The Netherlands and Germany; on hundreds of US commercial and university stations; and on Dateline NBC. It introduces five very ill, courageous and intelligent middle class folks; their legal and health problems; and explains the successful treatment of their afflictions using cannabis therapeutically.

The program is designed to be informative and challenging, a teaching tool, and understandable to the public at large. The information in the video is current with the exception of a map of the US that indicates states that have medical marijuana laws. The map is no longer accurate due to the number of states that have passed favorable legislation for cannabis patients since 1993.
