Oromucosol Phytocannabinoid Spray

Ever since our first Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics in 2000, Patients Out of Time has followed the progress of GW Pharmaceuticals (UK) and it's development of a oromucosol spray consisting of phytocannabinoids (extracted from the natural plant), marketed as SativexTM.

The founder of GW Pharmaceuticals, Geoffrey Guy , MD attended our Second conference in Portland, Oregon in May 0f 2002. First discussing CB1 and CB2 receptors; the modulatory effect on dopamine, GABA and glutamate; and cross-talk with other receptors, Dr. Guy then examines Phyto-Cannabinoids (plant based) THC, CBD and others, with GW's success in producing whole extracts from 3 tons/ year of dried marijuana and years of genetic breeding to feature both high THC and high CBD strains. Extracts from these strains are then blended for efficacy and synergistic moderation of side-effects. Dr. Guy then reports on Phase 2 trials, with good results including an "excellent safety profile" and emerging Cannabinoid-Ratio-Specific therapeutic themes.

Dr. Geoffrey Guy returns to our Third Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics, in Charlottesville VA, May of 2004, relating progress in their product development and clinical trials.

"From Plant to Prescription Medicine" - Introduced by Don Wirtshafter, Geoffrey Guy, MD, Founder and Executive Chairman of GW Pharmaceuticals, UK, explains why extracts of Phyto-Cannabinoids THC & CBD need to represent the natural balance of the Cannabis plant. Describing Cannabinoid action as a "Super-Modulator", Dr. Guy discusses clinical trials involving Multiple Sclerosis (MS), spinal cord injury and neuropathic pain.
